| After graduating from Paris High School in Paris, Texas, Ellen Coleman attended Columbia College for two years in 1959-1960 and obtained an Associate of Arts degree, and continued on to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Methodist University in 1961. Ellen Coleman taught high school physical education for five years; two years at Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas and three years at The Hockaday School in Dallas, before she began her real estate career. Several of these students have been her most loyal real estate clients throughout the years and one student was her very first client, buying a large estate on Lakeside Drive. In 1981, Ellen Terry founded one of the most successful boutique residential real estate companies in the Dallas Metroplex, Ellen Terry, Realtors specializing in quality, upscale properties. Ellen Terry, Realtors has closed over 5.3 billion in sales since the inception. Ellen Terry, Realtors has often been referred to as the “Neiman Marcus” of the residential real estate industry because of the firms’ dedication to the highest level of quality marketing and a total commitment to excellence in both product and service. Ebby Halliday and Ellen Terry joined forces in 1995 when Ms. Halliday bought Ellen Terry, Realtors and referred to this successful merger of the two companies as the “Best of the Big” and the “Best of the Boutiques” joining forces to create the “Best of the Best.” Ellen Terry, Realtors has remained autonomous and has continued as a Boutique office specializing in high-end homes in the multimillion dollar price range. Ellen re-entered the residential market place with a passion as an active sales associate. Ellen Terry personally listed and sold in excess of $100 million in sales volume during 2000, representing multimillion-dollar properties with an average sales price of $2.6 million. In the first quarter of the year 2000, Ellen both listed and sold a $22 million property, which was the most expensive residential property ever marketed throughout the Dallas Multiple Listing System. In spite of a major slowdown in the economy from 2001 to 2003, Ellen still closed 32 multimillion-dollar sales ranging in list prices from $1,000,000 to $6,200,000. Since 1996, Ellen Terry has closed more than $530 million in sales volume, representing over 158 multimillion-dollar transactions. Ellen’s professional, civic, charity, community activities and past boards encompass a wide range of involvement. Her achievements began at Christian College in Columbia, Missouri where she received the honor of “Yearbook Queen,” “Outstanding Sophomore,” “President of her Dorm,” “Student Council”, and “Outstanding Field Hockey Player,” and at SMU she was elected President of the Pi Beta Phi pledge class, as well as numerous other honors. She was awarded the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award in 1984; the Easterwood Cup Realtor of the Year in 1985; and the Distinguished Alumni Award for Christian College, Columbia, Missouri in 1986. In 1995, Ellen was awarded the Pi Beta Phi Service Award and in 2002, was presented the Pi Beta Phi Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg Crest Award. Ellen is a current member of Charter 100 and a former member of the Dallas Assembly and Dallas Citizens Council. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Dallas and the Crystal Charity Ball Committee. In 1995, she was honored with the “She Knows Where She Is Going Award” by Girls, Incorporated. In 1999, she received the Kim Dawson Attitude Award presented by the non-profit organization Attitude & Attire. In 2001, she was honored at the 8th annual Women of Excellence Awards. In 2004 Ellen was awarded the 2004 SMU Maura award. Ellen Terry’s personal goal is to always try and make a difference where she works and lives, giving back to the community in every way possible. In 1981, Ellen created an Awareness Hour held at Highland Park High School for parents, teachers, and teenagers, bringing in local and national speakers on alcohol and drug abuse. In 1991, she founded the Ellen Terry, Realtors Ladies Golf Classic, benefiting abused and battered women and their children. Over $500,000 has been raised since the inception, benefiting Genesis Women’s Shelter. The tournament has been renamed the “Genesis Women’s Shelter Golf Classic” in honor of the shelter as the permanent beneficiary. During her career, Ellen has appeared on numerous radio and television talk shows, including Gary Collins’ “Hour Magazine” and the British Broadcasting Company “BBC” feature program on Dallas as well as featured in the Dallas Morning News High Profile section. She has been featured in various magazine articles and books on Women Entrepreneurs including Women Business Leaders, Americas New Women Entrepreneurs and Women’s Ventures. An additional passion of Ellen Terry is motivational speaking, encouraging women to believe in themselves, never look at failure as final, and become all they were intended to be! One of her favorite quotes is “WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, IT CAN ACHIEVE, BUT IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME!!” Ellen Terry’s philosophy is that adversities and setbacks in life are merely challenges that can be turned into opportunities for personal growth. Her belief is that with persistence, determination and a positive mental attitude, any set of circumstances, no matter how devastating, can be turned around and that life is not about what happens to you, but it is about how you perceive what happens to you. The Results and Outcome of challenging situations are in direct proportion to how we view them. She is convinced that life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it. FOR GOOD THINGS TO HAPPEN, YOU MUST BELIEVE THEM BEFORE YOU SEE THEM! |
